Ararat Rural City Council is making waves in community wellness and local employment, launching a series of training initiatives designed to kick-start aquatic careers and strengthen regional recreational services.
Momentum is already building following a successful Aqua Aerobics course last week, which saw six participants earn their qualifications. Building on this success, the Ararat Fitness Centre is opening its doors for more community members to dive into flexible, rewarding roles.
For those ready to combine fun with fitness, Council is offering free aquatic accreditation through its Learn & Earn Program.
Enthusiastic individuals aged 16 and over are encouraged to apply. Eligible participants can complete their AUSTSWIM certification at no cost, unlocking potential pathways to become Swim Teachers or Aqua Aerobics Instructors.
"Our fitness centre staff play a really important role in boosting community health and inspiring a lifelong love for active living," said Mayor Bob Sanders.
"This opportunity is perfect for anyone looking for flexible hours, including parents seeking school-friendly or after-school shifts."
For residents looking to gain a valuable life skill and protect local swimmers, a comprehensive Lifeguard Certification Course is scheduled for this spring. Participants will gain practical expertise in pool zone monitoring, hazard prevention, and swift water rescue techniques.

To join either training program, candidates must be confident swimmers and hold (or be willing to secure before training begins):
- Current First Aid & CPR certificates (not included in these courses)
- A valid Working with Children Check
Please note: Formal employment offers are conditional. Successful participants will be offered casual employment contracts at the Ararat Fitness Centre upon completing both the training program and the job application process.
