Science lessons for students at Balga Senior High School are set to be boosted with a major upgrade to the school's four laboratories.
Architecture firm Hames Sharley has been appointed to design the state-of-the-art facility which will provide a high-quality learning and teaching environment with new work spaces.
With the project now in the planning stage, construction is expected to start in mid-2021 with completion due in early 2022.
This investment is part of the McGowan Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan to modernise Western Australian public schools.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
"These upgrades will give students a wonderful start in the field of science and help them prepare them for future careers.
"The focus on science is vital to Western Australia's future economy and local jobs.
"We know the majority of the fastest growing industries will require STEM skills and this gives students the best opportunity for future careers."
As stated by Mirrabooka MLA Janine Freeman:
"As Balga Senior High School celebrates its 50th year of delivering great education, this focus on science will equip it well for the next 50 years.
"The science laboratories will add to the impressive technical, science and engineering skills delivered by Balga Senior High School's successful STEM program 'F1 in Schools', where Balga were State finalists and participated in the national competition."
