Get Ready Queensland Week began on Monday, running until Sunday, October 15.

Queensland experiences more natural disasters than any other state or territory.

In fact, our beautiful state has experienced more than 100 natural disasters since 2011.

Our communities need to be ready to face bushfires, storms, cyclones and heatwaves.

Communities that are well prepared and supported before a disaster strikes are more resilient and able to recover faster.

This is why the Queensland Police Service is asking Queenslanders to plan ahead and pack an emergency kit, so you are ready when the weather turns bad.

Do you have a plan to stay safe?

Do you have:

  • Long-life food and toiletries in case you can't get to the shops?
  • Drinking water in case the water supply stops working?
  • Batteries, a torch and a radio in case the power goes out?

There are a few simple things we can all do to be ready for extreme weather:

  • Clean-up: check around the house and yard and make sure your home will hold up against whatever Queensland throws at you
  • Sign-up: subscribe to the Bureau of Meteorology and your local council for weather notifications
  • Connect: get to know your neighbours and your community
  • Get covered: building, home and contents insurance helps to replace your property and with repairs to your home.
