Arrest by Gold Stealing Detection Unit

Detectives from the Gold Stealing Detection Unit have charged three men in relation to a stealing incident at a gold mine in the Goldfields-Esperance District in April 2020.

It is alleged the men stole approximately $270,000 worth of raw gold ore along with a two tonne safe. It is further alleged they also stole a front-end loader from the gold mine site to load the safe onto a 4WD vehicle and then used another 4WD vehicle to block an access road. All vehicles were stolen from the site.

The safe was located after a member of the public reported suspicious activity and explosions in bushland between Kambalda and Kalgoorlie. Police attended the scene and located one stolen 4WD vehicle and the safe which was still intact.
