The Government of Canada is committed to helping Atlantic Canadian food and beverage producers reach new markets, grow their business, and explore new pathways to success. This will help create an economy that works for everyone and is more resilient, diversified and inclusive.

Beginning today, Food & Beverage Atlantic (FBA) is leading a delegation of 12 Atlantic food and beverage processors exhibiting at the annual Salon international de l'alimentation Canada (SIAL Canada) for the first time in two years. The Atlantic Canadian producers will be able to renew connections that were impacted by COVID-19 restrictions. Billed as 'North America's biggest food-innovation tradeshow', SIAL Canada attracts over 25,000 buyers from Canada's biggest trading partner, the United States, and 50 other countries, including the European Union.

Food and food exports are big business in Atlantic Canada

Last year, global food exports from Atlantic Canada were valued at over $8.1 billion, which was more than $2 billion over the previous year and the highest in the last five years. The United States was the biggest buyer of food products from Atlantic Canada with imports valued at just over $5.7 billion in 2021.

Food & Beverage Atlantic has received a non-repayable contribution of $737,925 over four years through ACOA's Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program to support market development activities to the United States and the European Union.

By promoting dialogue with regional producers, international partners, stakeholders and industry representatives, the Government of Canada is committed to helping exporters discover new market opportunities to grow their business and create well-paying jobs for Canadians.
