Australia announces new Consul-General in Bengaluru

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Hilary McGeachy as Australia's first Consul-General in Bengaluru, India.

The Bengaluru Consulate-General will be Australia's fifth diplomatic mission in India, with consular responsibilities for the states of Karnataka and Telangana.

Bengaluru is a leading centre of innovation and the heart of India's technology industry with a vibrant business community and a booming digital economy.

The Consulate-General will deepen Australia's trade, investment and people-to-people ties and strengthen our technology partnership with this dynamic part of south India.

India is one of Australia's most important regional partners, and we are working together as partners and friends to achieve our shared goal of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Ms McGeachy is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has previously served overseas in India and Germany.
