Australian Government Announces Tourism Recovery Package - NT is Open for Business

Tourism NT has brought forward its latest brand promotion featuring 'Different in every sense' to commence on 28th January to help get tourists travelling to the NT. The brand campaign is one of a range of marketing activities that are either already live or will be in market in the next few weeks.

These activities will also be supported through the Australian Government's $76 million tourism bushfire recovery package designed to help get tourists travelling across Australia again.

While the Territory has been spared the direct impacts from the bushfires that have, and in some parts of Australia are still currently being affected, we need to make sure we are standing with our local operators who have seen cancellations, and other jurisdictions in telling the world that we are open for business.

Thousands of small Territory businesses rely on tourism. It is important that we continue to support our local businesses, promote the Territory and share the message that Australia remains open for business, to reassure travellers who were planning a holiday to continue with their plans or rebook for another time.

The brand awareness promotion is one of many planned initiatives Tourism NT will be rolling out over the coming months to encourage both Australian and international travellers to explore the Territory's unique destinations and experiences.

Tourism NT is working with Tourism Australia to implement a coordinated approach to the recovery activities to ensure the Northern Territory is strongly represented and to support the Australia-wide tourism program.

As stated by Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Eva Lawler:

"The unprecedented bushfires have affected the Australian community as a whole and the tourism industry in the Northern Territory will see an impact due to visitor travel plans being changed - we are not being complacent and are working strategically to ensure that travellers know that 'We are open for business, and so is Australia'.

"We know we're not immune from the impacts of the bushfires, and that's why we are taking action right now to protect our tourism sector and protect the jobs it creates.

"Tourism NT's domestic and international destination marketing campaigns are continuing to keep the Territory top of mind, with the latest brand promotion featuring 'Different in every sense' now brought forward to be in market at the end of January.

"Tourism in the Northern Territory supports more than 17,100 direct and indirect jobs and thousands of small to medium local businesses.

"As part of the Turbocharging Tourism package, the Territory Labor Government has invested an additional $62.8 million from 2019-21 to attract more visitors through marketing, enhancing visitor experiences and supporting festivals and events in the NT."
