New report reveals real-world impact for Australians — from hospital beds saved to better health, independence and community connection
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — Australian Unity has today released its 2025 Impact Report, revealing a unique Community & Social Value (CSV) of $2.38 billion generated directly through its operations and services created in FY25 of a total of $6.18 billion of value.
This year's findings arrive against the backdrop of a rapidly ageing population, increasing complexity in care needs, and mounting pressure on Australia's already stretched health and aged care systems. The Impact Report highlights the opportunity that meeting the growing demand for essential services, from home care to hospital and aged care beds presents.
In the past 12 months alone, the unique and direct contribution by Australian Unity increased by 18.4%, reinforcing its leadership in delivering long-term wellbeing outcomes across Australia's health, wealth, and care sectors.
The data shows that when capital is invested in the right programs and services, it can generate immense, measurable value for the community — presenting a clear opportunity for government and capital partners to expand investment in the areas that deliver the greatest returns.
"This report isn't just a reflection of what we've done — it's a call to action," said Siobhan Henderson, Head of Social Impact & Strategy Manager at Australian Unity. "If we're serious about building a country that supports people at every life stage, we must invest in the systems that deliver real, measurable outcomes. Our data shows the immense value that care access can create across society. We're proud of the contribution we're making, but with an ageing population and rising complexity in care needs, we're calling on government and capital partners to help build the next generation of care capacity."
A key driver of Australian Unity's impact is improved access to healthcare, which delivered over $3.12 billion in value and more than 32,000 hospital bed days saved across private health insurance, home care, health services, mental health, social infrastructure, and aged care.
Of the $6.18 billion in total impact contributed to by Australian Unity, $2.38 billion is classified as unique — meaning benefits that would not have occurred without Australian Unity's direct involvement. This distinction, developed with Social Ventures Australia (SVA), strengthens the organisation's outcomes-based approach and provides valuable clarity for policymakers, capital providers, and the broader community on where value can be realised.
The report organises Australian Unity's impact across three key pillars:
- Lifelong Wellness – $3.70 billion, including $3.1 billion in improved access to healthcare and $568 million in improved health outcomes
- Strong Communities – $2 billion, with over $1.8 billion in enabling people to remain living independently and $194 million driven by social innovation
- Economic Empowerment – $493 million, including $327 million through building financial resilience and $166 million through employment pathways
With the framework informed by the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index These results underscore the deeply interconnected nature of health, community, and finances, showing that investment in wellbeing delivers strong returns at both the individual and system level. These benefits are reflected across a broad stakeholder network:
- Residents, who experienced greater independence, better mental and physical health, stronger relationships, and improved connection to community
- Families and friends, who reported relief from caregiving responsibilities and increased confidence in the support provided
- Employees, who benefited from improved personal wellbeing and greater financial stability
- Government, which saw a reduction in healthcare demand and strong return on social investment
These outcomes bring to life Australian Unity's purpose — to positively impact the wellbeing of millions — and its vision to enable Real Wellbeing for members, customers and communities through a portfolio of sustainable and commercial businesses. This purpose is embedded in the organisation's CSV framework, which continues to shape investment decisions that drive meaningful, measurable improvements to people's lives.
Australian Unity's CSV framework is publicly available to enable other organisations to measure and communicate its own impact. "We want to support other groups quantify and communicate social impact in a meaningful way," said Adam Vise, Group Treasurer and General Manager, Strategy & Impact.
From care and financial services to infrastructure and innovation, the framework demonstrates how business can be a force for good — delivering better outcomes for individuals, communities, and the nation.
