The Australind train service is set to formally resume from Monday, 29 June 2026.

The service will reconnect Perth and Bunbury, with four new Australind trains set to provide passengers a more comfortable and convenient journey to and from the South West.

The new Australind trains will be reintroduced in stages, with the first train entering service from 29 June, and the remaining three trains to follow over the coming months.

Some coach services will operate until the second train comes online.

The four three-car trains represent a significant upgrade to the older fleet, replacing the previous railcars which started services in 1987.

The new Australind trains feature contemporary interiors with LED lighting, in-seat USB-C charging, improved accessibility, an onboard buffet and dedicated storage for 14 bicycles per train.

Each of the new Australind trains will also feature unique Aboriginal artwork by a local Indigenous artist, celebrating the culture and connection of the South West and ensuring each train has its own distinctive identity.

To support the operation of the Australind and services to run more frequently, the Cook Labor Government will invest $45 million in the State Budget 2026-27.

The State Government is working with Arc Infrastructure to finalise the additional frequencies, with the aim of doubling the number of services, which are expected to be in place by early next year.

The Australind's stopping pattern will remain unchanged, with services operating on the original route between Perth and Bunbury, stopping at Armadale, Byford, Mundijong, Serpentine, North Dandalup, Pinjarra, Waroona, Yarloop, Cookernup, Harvey and Brunswick Junction.

People across Perth and the South West are invited to help shape the identity of the new Australind service, with a naming competition for the four new Australind trains running from today until 18 May 2026.

The public can submit their suggested names via the My Say Transport website , with winners to be invited to board the first service on the new train.

Names will be shortlisted that reflect the spirit, heritage and future of the South West.

A community event to celebrate the return of the service will be held at Bunbury Passenger Terminal on Sunday, 28 June 2026. More information about the event will be available closer to the date.
