Ban on Above-Ground Multilayer Pipe Installation Enforced

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) reminds gasfitters that as of 30 March 2023, it has been a requirement to comply with the requirements of the 2022 edition of AS/NZS 5601.1 (see Clauses 4.2 (Table 4.2), 5.2.12 & 5.3.16).

The VBA has received complaints about the noncompliant installation of multilayer pipes. If noncompliant multilayer pipes are identified, licensed plumbers are required to return to that site and replace any noncompliant pipes.

The standard outlines requirements relating to the design, installation and commissioning of gas installations that are associated with the use or intended use of natural gas, LP Gas or biogas.

The standard forms part of the Victorian plumbing regulatory regime and applies to gasfitting work carried out in Victoria.
