Bandicoot spotted in Koo Wee Rup's underground crossing

Our furry little friend, the Southern Brown Bandicoot has been photographed for the first-time, scurrying the underground crossings in Koo Wee Rup.

As part of our Strategic Sealed Roads Project and in partnership with the Royal Botanical Gardens Cranbourne, Council installed seven bandicoot crossings during the construction of Boundary Drain Road and Main Drain Road last year.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield said the photo captured showed the efforts we put in place to protect this nationally endangered species.

"We are proud to be a part of this trial and its efforts to protect these animals by reducing their road deaths," Cr Springfield said.
