Barnett calls urgent solar meeting

Tasmanian Labor

In an admission he got his Energy Saver Loans Scheme completely wrong, Guy Barnett has called an emergency meeting today in a bid to salvage the scheme.

The attempt to provide additional protections to the scheme has now led the government to require Clean Energy Council (CEC) retailer accreditation of Tasmanian small businesses wishing to participate in the scheme. The problem is there are no additional protections for consumers from CEC retailer accreditation and the requirement has locked 90% of Tasmanian contractors out of doing the work.

Labor understands Brighte Capital and the CEC have been called in to meet with the Minister, his Department, Tasmanian solar installers and their industry body representatives today.

The Minister must provide an update about what changes he is going to make in response to the mounting problems within the scheme.

With prices expected to go up by between 20 and 25% next year, the last thing Tasmanians need is yet another failure by this Minister.
