BiH Education Reform: Teachers, Students Share Practices

OSCE

High-quality education is built in classrooms where students are active participants in learning, and where teaching is guided by clear outcomes that foster the development of critical knowledge, skills, and competencies.

In order to mark World Creativity and Innovation Day, the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mission) and the Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of the Sarajevo Canton jointly organized an event titled "Teachers' Encounters: Our Small and Large Reforms in the Classroom" in Sarajevo

Informed by the theme "My Journey Through Subject Curricula: What I Have (and Have Not) Changed in My Practice," the event gathered teachers and students from Sarajevo and other cantons to present and reflect on their classroom practices in the implementation of the curriculum reform process supported by the OSCE Mission.

It also provided an opportunity for education authority representatives to gain insights into how reform is being translated into classroom practice in various parts of the country.

"Reforms are often described in terms of policies and frameworks. Their true impact, however, is revealed where it matters most: In classrooms that encourage students to think critically; in tasks that connect learning with real life; and in school environments where every student has a voice," said Ivo Lupis, Head of the Human Dimension Department at the OSCE Mission to BiH.

Through presentations and a panel discussion, participants shared insights on how the shift toward a student-centred approach has influenced classroom practice, highlighting both the progress achieved and the challenges that remain.

The Mission is committed to supporting inclusive and high-quality education through continued co-operation with education authorities, schools, teachers and students across the country. This, in turn, strengthens community cohesion and resilience and cultivates the foundations of long-term security and stability in BiH.
