The Albanese Government is delivering $36.1 million to upgrade the energy performance of an additional 3,500 social housing properties across South Australia, reducing energy bills, improving living conditions, and ensuring more households can enjoy warmer winters and cooler summers.
Under the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI), the upgrades will include draught proofing, LED lighting, electric hot water systems, window glazing upgrades and ceiling insulation.
Installations will commence this year with completion of the improvements expected by 2030.
With an average age of 46 years, SA Housing Trust homes are among the most energy inefficient properties in the state, built long before the introduction of minimum build standards.
Through SHEPI, the Albanese and Malinauskas Labor Governments have already invested $42.8 million to upgrade up to 4,000 public and community housing properties across South Australia.
This additional investment will bring that up to 7,500 households to benefit from reduced energy bills and more comfortable homes.
Nationally, SHEPI is investing $1.1 billion, including $800 million from the Albanese Government, to support energy performance upgrades to more than 100,000 social housing properties across Australia. More than 41,000 upgrades have already been completed.
