Book It To New Citylibraries Mobile Library Van

Get a read on Townsville Citylibraries' new mobile library van when it rolls into Townsville's community hubs from this week.

The new van is smaller on the outside than the original van, allowing it to be nimble and agile while still delivering the same diverse offering of library materials, digital resources and interactive programs that residents are used to.

Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the new van was part of Townsville City Council's commitment to connecting residents to the resources they need.

"Our mobile library service visits areas like Magnetic Island, Rollingstone, Saunders Beach, Deeragun, Bluewater, Elliot Springs and Woodstock to give residents access to this important community resource," Cr Greaney said.

"The new mobile library van is easier to manoeuvre and includes solar panels and backup batteries to reduce our carbon footprint while still delivering the same great service."

Cr Greaney said the new van would hit the road tomorrow.

"Residents can reserve their items on the Townsville Citylibraries app and pick their items up from the mobile library van – it couldn't be easier," Cr Greaney said.

"Townsville Citylibraries offers a world of entertainment and information, from physical and digital books, magazines, movies and news, as well as the Library of Things which includes items like telescopes, sewing machines and musical instruments.

"Signing up to Citylibraries is quick, easy and free. Just bring proof of your name and current address to any of our Citylibraries branches or the mobile library van to receive full access to all physical and online resources."
