Education Minister Sabine Winton has today celebrated the naming of Piara Waters' newest school, Boola Mia Primary School, which is under construction and set to open in 2027.
Boola Mia Primary School will accommodate 540 students with additional facilities for around 50 students in an education support program.
Name choices for the school were developed through a Noongar place naming process, facilitated by Moodjar.
There was extensive community consultation with people from a range of cultural and education backgrounds, including Aboriginal Elders to ensure cultural appropriateness.
Students from the new Wungong Primary School, which opened this year, were also involved in the process.
Boola Mia - meaning 'home to many'in Noongar - was the overwhelming preference.
The primary school will be equipped with a double-storey building containing a library, staff room, general and inclusive specialist learning areas along with an administration building, early childhood education block, and an assembly building with canteen and music room.
Dedicated facilities will be available to support students with disability, such as classrooms, staff workspace, therapy rooms, and sensory rooms.
The build also incorporates hard courts, car parking, bike storage, and landscaping.
School design was completed by TAG Architects with building managed by McCorkell Constructions.
The major project forms part of the Cook Labor Government's record $6.4 billion investment in education infrastructure across Western Australia.
