The Buln Buln Lyrebirds, Neerim South Cats, Trafalgar Bloods and the Yarragon Panthers are just some of the clubs to benefit from bright new lighting at their home grounds thanks to $180,000 support from the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Martin Pakula was at Trafalgar Reserve in Trafalgar and Dowton Park Oval in Yarragon tonight to officially flick the switch on the new lighting at the reserves.
Other grounds in the area to receive upgraded lighting include Buln Buln Recreation Reserve and Neerim South Recreation Reserve.
Victorian sports clubs are the lifeblood of our towns and regional centres, and they deserve modern, accessible, and safe facilities that all in the community can be proud of.
At Buln Buln, Neerim South and Trafalgar the new netball court lighting will provide clubs with more training opportunities and allow for night competition.
At Yarragon the new oval lighting will allow for wider use of the oval during night training and open up the ground to night games.
It’s all part of the Government’s commitment to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.
Across Victoria, the government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
Mr Pakula acknowledged the Federal Government and Baw Baw Shire Council for their commitment to the projects.
As stated by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Martin Pakula
“This is about backing local communities – delivering more facilities for football and netball teams in the Latrobe Valley so they can encourage more people to get involved in grassroots sport.”
“We want all Victorians to have access to quality facilities, regardless of where they live or their gender.”
As stated by Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing
“This will put local sports in the spotlight and give a real home-ground advantage to these football and netball teams, so they can train harder and showcase their sports day and night.”
