The Chapel Street end of Fitzgerald Street in South Yarra is being transformed into a work of art by artist James MacSporran, who will draw on his imagination and flair to turn the road into a brightly coloured, street art inspired mural.
Over two days on 15 and 16 December, James will be applying his talents to the road pavement, creating an eye-catching entry statement to the recently created pop-up parklet.
The new mural is a continuation of James' abstract investigations collectively titled From the Streets. Highly influenced by urban scenes, street culture and graffiti the mural will be vibrant, abstract response to the energy and colour of the iconic Chapel Street precinct.
Until March 2021, the site of his latest commission - Fitzgerald Street - is being turned into a car free space with pop-up gardens, lots of greenery, street furniture and plenty of shade.
This project is one of a number of activations the City of Stonnington is rolling out to create opportunities for the local community to meet and enjoy their neighbourhoods in relaxing new way.

About the Artist
Melbourne-born James takes his inspiration from trains and cityscapes. His art is a blend of abstract and graffiti which results in fluoro-coloured and densely layered artworks that he creates from his imagination. Often overlaying text with abstraction, his work conjures references to mazes, street art and old-style arcade games.
MacSporran has worked at Arts Project since 2016. He's regularly exhibited in group shows in Australia and has also been shown in New York and Hong Kong. His work is held in private collections.
