Bundilla Beach masterplan process commences

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin has kicked off the process to reactivate the Bundilla Beach reserve by seeking proposals to design a concept, consult with the community and deliver a comprehensive masterplan for the area.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the masterplan would consider the site's social, environmental, and cultural values and outline the short and longer-term vision for the underutilised beach and surrounds.

"For almost 20 years different ideas have been proposed for Bundilla Beach, but what has been missing is a masterplan with a solid vision," Mr Vatskalis said.

"Community feedback will be critical to getting the masterplan right, so City of Darwin will be asking people to have their say on the Bundilla Beach reserve masterplan in the coming months.

"We will deliver a prioritised, staged and costed masterplan for the Bundilla Beach area, with the first stage of development funded by $500,000 from City of Darwin and $3 million from the Northern Territory Government," he said.

"Activating this valued part of Darwin will deliver a revitalised space for the community and visitors to enjoy our green spaces, with flow-on benefits for local businesses."

Local Member for Fannie Bay Brent Potter has welcomed City of Darwin's release of the request for proposals and encouraged local businesses to apply.

"The Territory Labor Government is revitalising our suburbs, making sure the Territory is a safe and attractive place to live. This is why we have allocated $3 million for this project," Mr Potter said.

"There is enormous potential for the Bundilla Beach reserve, and I am keen to see this realised with support from the NT Government.

"This project will enhance liveability and attract local residents and tourists to explore the tourist trail from the Darwin Waterfront, through the Darwin CBD to East Point."

Proposals must be submitted by 13 July 2023, with construction on stage one of the plan expected to commence during dry season 2024.
