Free bus services will operate across Byron Shire this Easter weekend to support a region-wide program of live music, markets and events following the cancellation of Bluesfest.

Mayor Sarah Ndiaye said the NSW Government support would make it easier and safer for people to move across the shire during one of the busiest weekends of the year.

"I'd like to sincerely thank Minister Steve Kamper and Minister John Graham, along with Destination NSW, for backing our community at such short notice," Mayor Sarah Ndiaye, said.

"This support means people, including visitors, can leave their cars at home and jump on a bus, making our roads safer and reducing pressure on parking.

"The confirmation of the buses came through on Wednesday evening so my message is for people to check Council's website and Facebook
