Camden Council is continuing to encourage momentum on the long-awaited Camden Bypass Extension, a critical project that will improve connectivity and help ease congestion across Camden.
At the June Ordinary Council Meeting, Council formally congratulated both governments on the investment and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the project through its The Time Is Now advocacy campaign.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said the funding commitment was an important step forward for one of Australia's fastest-growing communities.
"Residents across Camden know all too well the frustration of increasing traffic congestion and longer travel times, so this planning commitment is welcome news for our community," Cr Fedeli said.
"The Camden Bypass Extension has been one of Council's key advocacy priorities because it will improve connectivity, reduce pressure on our existing road network and support the continued growth of our region.
"Importantly, this investment acknowledges what our community has been saying for years - our infrastructure must keep pace with our population growth.
"We congratulate both the State and Federal Governments on committing funding to progress planning for this vital project and thank Member for Camden Sally Quinnell for her advocacy in helping secure this outcome for our region."
The proposed extension is expected to improve traffic flow and road safety across key corridors including Camden Bypass, Narellan Road, The Northern Road and Camden Valley Way, while strengthening connections for residents in Spring Farm, Elderslie and West Camden.
