Camden Council has welcomed the NSW Government's announcement that planning will begin on the long-awaited Camden Bypass Extension.
The announcement includes plans for a flyover linking the Camden Bypass to Camden Valley Way, helping motorists avoid key congestion points around Narellan and improve connectivity across South-West Sydney.
Council has repeatedly highlighted road infrastructure as one of the most urgent issues facing the Camden area through its advocacy campaign The Time Is Now, identifying the Camden Bypass Extension as a priority project that will improve connectivity, reduce congestion and support future growth.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said it was a critical step forward for one of Australia's fastest-growing regions.
"This is exactly the type of commitment Camden Council has been calling for and what the Camden area needs," she said.
"We've been strongly advocating for investments like this one through The Time Is Now campaign because, quite simply, the time really is now for infrastructure investment to catch up with our growth.
"With a population forecast to grow by 81 per cent over the next 20 years, our current and future residents shouldn't have to spend more and more time sitting in traffic because essential infrastructure has not kept pace with population growth.
"Council has consistently advocated for critical road upgrades and transport investment, including this Camden Bypass Extension, because Camden deserves road networks that support us properly."
While the announcement is welcome news, Council will continue advocating to ensure projects progress beyond planning and are delivered in a timely manner.
