Camden Council has reinforced the need for timely investment in critical infrastructure to support one of Australia's fastest-growing communities, at the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue's Unlocking Camden's Growth Potential: The Time Is Now Forum.
Council was proud to be a partner for this event, which brought together government, industry and community leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with Camden's unprecedented growth.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, and Camden Council General Manager, Andrew Carfield, presented Camden's vision for the future, highlighting the importance of investment in transport, roads, housing, employment, health, education and community infrastructure alongside housing delivery to ensure growth delivers positive outcomes for residents and the broader Western Sydney region.
Cr Fedeli said Camden was at a pivotal point in its growth journey and collaboration would be essential to ensuring the community continues to thrive.
"Camden is one of Australia's fastest-growing communities, welcoming 100 new residents every week," she said.
"This is our moment to get it right. Infrastructure and services must be delivered alongside housing to ensure we are creating connected, liveable and sustainable communities.
"Council can't do it alone - no one organisation can. By working together across government, industry and the community, we can ensure Camden's growth delivers benefits not just for our residents, but for Greater Sydney and New South Wales.
"When we invest in Camden, we are investing in the future of the nation. The decisions we make today will shape how people live, work and connect for generations to come."
During the presentation, Cr Fedeli and Mr Carfield highlighted Camden's significant growth trajectory, with the population expected to increase by around 74 per cent over the next two decades. Council also outlined key opportunities, including unlocking Leppington as a major employment and housing precinct, reducing transport disadvantage and delivering infrastructure alongside growth.
Mr Carfield said Camden had the opportunity to play a major role in supporting the future of Western Sydney, but investment needed to keep pace with the scale and speed of development.
"Camden is ready to help deliver the homes, jobs and economic opportunities that governments are seeking, but infrastructure must be delivered alongside growth and not as an afterthought," Mr Carfield said.
"Investments in transport connections, road upgrades, schools, health services and community facilities are critical to ensuring new and existing communities have the services they need to thrive."
