Construction will start next week on safety upgrades at the Midland Highway and Lake Leake Road intersection in Campbell Town.
The project is jointly funded by the Albanese ($2.16 million) and Rockliff ($540,000) governments, as part of a $22 million investment across the state under the Road Safety Program.
The dedicated right-turn lane will allow through traffic on the Midland Highway to continue without having to stop for vehicles turning onto Lake Leake Road, lowering the risk of collisions.
Construction will begin on Monday, 21 September 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Work will take place from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with lane closures and a reduced speed limit in place during working hours.
Road users should plan ahead and allow up to 15 minutes of additional travel time during working hours.
Further improvements on the final 10-kilometre section of Midland Highway upgrades between Campbell Town and Conara are also scheduled to start later this year. These works are jointly funded through the Australian and Tasmanian governments' $605 million commitment to the Midland Highway Action Plan.
