Upgrades at Lake Banook will support major paddling events and benefit athletes, visitors and local businesses
Strong community infrastructure helps attract visitors, grow local businesses and create new opportunities for Canadians.
Today, Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, announced a non-repayable contribution to Canoe '26 Society to support the purchase and installation of equipment and infrastructure at Lake Banook ($252,884). New modular docks, improved venue-wide internet, safety equipment and support boats will help Dartmouth host two international canoe sprint championships in 2026 while leaving lasting improvements for future events and community use.
Today's announcement supports the Government of Canada's commitment to building stronger communities, growing sport tourism and creating economic opportunities across Atlantic Canada - today and for generations to come.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
