The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced the following appointment under the judicial application process established in 2016. This process emphasizes transparency, merit, and the diversity of the Canadian population, and will continue to ensure the appointment of jurists who meet the highest standards of excellence and integrity.
Hafeez A. Khan, a sole practitioner in Winnipeg, is appointed a Judge of the Court of King's Bench of Manitoba (Family Division) in Winnipeg. Justice Khan replaces Justice R.B. Doyle (Winnipeg), who retired effective August 13, 2026.

Biography
Justice Hafeez A. Khan was born and raised in Winnipeg. He received a Bachelor of Science in Ecology (First Class Honours) from the University of Manitoba and continued his studies at McGill University where he obtained degrees in both Common and Civil Law. After graduation, he completed an internship in Kenya through the Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2003 and to the New York Bar in 2004.
Justice Khan is bilingual and has practiced in both official languages. He had a varied practice with a primary focus on child protection. Notably, he was involved in the implementation and application of Manitoba's first, and currently only, Indigenous child and family services law. He has appeared before all levels of the Court in Manitoba, as well as the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada. He is a former chair of the Mental Health Review Board and has appeared before various administrative tribunals. He was also counsel in the Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry.
Justice Khan was a regular guest speaker at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law in both the French and English Family Law courses. He has lectured for the Law Society and the Canadian Bar Association, and most recently at the National Justice Institute program: "Une Justice en Mouvement".
Justice Khan and his wife are the proud parents of two girls with whom they love to travel. A Wombats R.F.C. alumnus, he enjoys gardening and coaching youth soccer.
