Canyoner dies in Blue Mountains

A man has died while canyoning in the Wollemi National Park in the Greater Blue Mountains yesterday.

Police have been told the 65-year-old was abseiling down a canyon in the Wolgan Valley, about 30km from Lithgow, when he fell onto rocks below about 2.30pm (Wednesday 2 September 2020).

Emergency services were notified while friends gave the man CPR and first aid.

NSW Police Rescue, the Special Operations Team from NSW Ambulance and the Toll Rescue Helicopter attended.

Despite efforts to revive the man, he died at the scene.

His body will be recovered from the location today and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
