CBA offers recovery grants for schools and communities impacted by floods

Commonwealth Bank is making cash grants available to help schools and communities in New South Wales and Queensland impacted by the recent floods.

Grants of $5,000 are now available to help schools replace damaged and lost equipment as part of a $250,000 cash package under the bank's Flood Recovery Support program.

CBA Group Executive, Retail Banking Services, Angus Sullivan, said: "Given the devastating scale of the floods in NSW and Queensland, we know schools have been heavily impacted, and whilst the buildings will be repaired, replacing items which have been donated or fundraised for can leave significant gaps.

"We've heard directly and seen reports on the impact of these floods on schools and local communities and our hope is that these grants will go some way in helping them get back to a level of normality," he said.

CBA will also provide $50,000 to Thread Together, a charity organisation and one of the bank's Next Chapter partners. The donation will ensure the organisation can continue its support to other frontline agencies in impacted communities provide new clothes to individuals in need. Thread Together has already delivered and dispatched over 5,000 units of clothing to-date.

Mr Sullivan continued: "We hope that this additional support will help ease the burden as we work through a longer-term recovery. As Australia's largest bank it's important to us that we're there for our communities when they need us most."

This forms part of CBA's expanded measures to provide financial assistance and support to those impacted by the recent floods, including an initial $1 million donation; and a dollar-for-dollar match of any funds donated by customers through the branches or CommBank App's fund-raising appeal 'CanGive'.
