Residents are encouraged to start their spring cleaning and clear out their garages, sheds and cupboards in time for Campbelltown's annual Household Chemical CleanOut.
Community members can dispose of hazardous household chemicals, free of charge, on Sunday 20 September from 9am to 3.30pm at 59 Junction Road, Leumeah.
"Events like Household Chemical CleanOut give our community a safe and responsible way to dispose of harmful chemicals that don't belong in kerbside bins," Mayor of Campbelltown, Darcy Lound said.
"I encourage everyone across Campbelltown to take this opportunity to clear out unwanted chemicals from their homes and help protect our local environment while reducing potential fire and safety risks," Cr Lound said.
Household Chemical CleanOut events have been held in Campbelltown for several years, helping residents safely dispose of hazardous household waste. Last September, more than 600 residents attended the event, safely disposing of over 22 tonnes of household chemicals and problem waste that may have otherwise ended up in landfill.
Household quantities of the following items can be accepted:
- Garden and pool chemicals
- Household cleaning products
- Hobby and craft chemicals
- Poisons and pesticides
- Motor fluids and fuels
- Motor and cooking oils
- Batteries
- Paint
- Gas bottles
- Fire extinguishers
- Smoke detectors
- Fluorescent globes and tubes
Bookings are not required for this free service. Residents are also encouraged to make use of the Community Recycling Centre on Hepher Road, Campbelltown, where many of the same household chemicals can be disposed of free of charge all year round.
