Christmas Pageant kicks off Christmas Countdown

NT Government

The countdown to Christmas is officially on with Darwin's Christmas Pageant taking place last night.

Thousands of Territorians flocked to the city to watch over 50 walking groups and vehicle floats parade through the streets to celebrate the festive season.

The event - which also included activities in the mall and the lighting of the Darwin City Christmas tree - was an amazing success, with the Chief Minister confirming it will take place again in 2023.

It was welcomed by many businesses, with attendees also filling our restaurants and pubs.

A huge congratulations to Good Shepard Lutheran College for winning best float and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School for winning best walking group. Both schools will receive a $500 prize for their win.

The Parade kicks off a month of festive activities including Christmas street art and markets, the opening of Santa's Village in the mall, festive light trails and of course, the much loved Carols by Candlelight which will take place on the 4th of December at the Darwin Amphitheatre.
