Climate Strikers Interrupt Victorian Parliament Session

School Strike for Climate

School climate strikers disrupt Vic Parliament Pre Strike Action

School students disrupt Victorian Parliament to protest the Labor Governments continued approval and subsidisation of coal and gas, and announce student strike on November 17th.

On November 14th at 2pm, student climate strikers brought in banners to the Victorian Parliament and sang songs.

The students sang "which side are you on" together to the parliamentarians as they unrolled their three banners.

The banners called for Melbourne students to strike from high school this Friday, November 17 with these three slogans: "School Strike 4 Climate" "November 17 Flagstaff Gardens 1pm" "Coal is killing us"

Quotes attributable to school strike media spokesperson Myles Wilkinson (16):

"The government is supposed to protect its people but instead it's allowing and funding the continued extraction, exportation and burning of fossil fuels driving the climate crisis which threatens every species on the planet, including us. We have come to Parliament today to demand an end to all new coal and gas projects in Australia. If you are a student, come strike on November 17 at Flagstaff Gardens in Melbourne to take our futures into our own hands.

Quote from organiser Joey Thompson (16): "We have also created the climate doctors certificate. This is a different kind of sick note, signed by a doctor who recognises the need to stop fossil fuels. All students can print out their own personalised climate doctor certificate at www.climatedoctorscertificate.com.au. Don't get punished for protesting, if your school questions your absence on Friday November 17th, present them with your certificate as a powerful symbol of defiance, showing that the climate is more important than the classroom. Join us at Flagstaff gardens at 1pm on the 17th of November to #ShiftThePower away from fossil fuels."

School strike 4 climate, a youth led activist group has called a national day of action on this Friday the 17th of November, calling students all around Australia to strike.
