Media Release CLP helping find Territory's essential workers of the future with STEM program

Power and Water has launched a new program focused on STEM careers - That's My Career!This hands-on program aims to find our essential workers of the future and inspire Territory students to explore STEM careers.That's My Careers! is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and connect students with future career pathways in the Territory.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is investing in the Territory's future, with a new Power and Water STEM program aimed at encouraging high school students into essential careers.

Minister for Essential Services, Steve Edgington, said Power and Water's That's My Career! program gives Territory students hands-on experience and a direct pathway into essential utility careers.

"In our year of growth, certainty and security, delivering reliable essential services is key to restoring the Territory lifestyle and keeping the NT a place people are proud to call home," Mr Edgington said.

"We need the workforce to keep the Territory running today and into the future, and this program is about finding and growing the next generation of essential workers."

That's My Career! was developed to spark the curiosity of year 9 and 10 students and encourage them to begin to think about a future STEM career pathway.

The program is developed around 5 key job roles and delivered through an engaging full-day workshop.

The workshop will include understanding essential services, exploring STEM pathways, learning about local industries, developing problem-solving skills and showcasing diverse career opportunities available in the Northern Territory.

That's My Career! In Action will feature five face-to-face experiences delivered by STEM professionals and allows students to step into role-play situations, to learn firsthand about critical infrastructure careers that keep communities running.

"This hands-on program is about inspiring Territory students to explore exciting STEM careers and showing them the real opportunities available right here at home," Mr Edgington said

"That's My Career! is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and connect students with future career pathways in the Territory."

The initial cohort will complete That's My Career! In Action at the Allwright Training Facility in early June, with an expression of interest now open online here here for students who wish to take part in Katherine and Alice Springs later in the year.
