ESCWA Develops Trade Simulation Tool for Palestine

With the aim of supporting data- and evidence-based economic and trade decision-making, ESCWA convened a workshop in Amman on 25 and 26 August to advance the development of a national version of the Global Economy-wide Trade Simulation Interface (GETSI).

The workshop brought together representatives from key Palestinian ministries and national institutions. Participants discussed the platform's key technical features and the analytical capabilities it would provide, including the ex-ante assessment of trade negotiations and bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements, as well as analysis of external economic shocks.

ESCWA, in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Industry, will develop the platform, drawing on its experience in adapting the tool to the needs of several Arab countries and applying it to assess trade policies, economic shocks and their economy-wide implications.
