Coal Loader Artisans Market Returns This Autumn

North Sydney Council

The Coal Loader Artisans Market is back this autumn, inviting the community to a relaxed and creative day at the historic Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton.

This season's market features a curated selection of local makers, designers and artists, offering handmade and thoughtfully crafted products including art, ceramics, textiles, eco products, fashion, jewellery and children's design. Set within Sydney's unique heritage site, the market provides a welcoming space to support local creativity while enjoying a sustainable, family-friendly outing.

Visitors can also take part in The Big Whale Build, a free, hands-on public art project led by artists Susie Rugg and George Buchanan. Participants of all ages are invited to help create a large whale sculpture from recycled materials, celebrating Sydney's coastal and river wildlife. All materials are supplied and the completed sculpture will remain on display at the Coal Loader throughout March as part of Sydney's Ocean Lovers Festival.

Adding to the creative offerings, Coal Loader Artists in Residence The Tree Veneration Society will run a free, drop-in drawing workshop with painter Diane Mah, inspired by the elements of trees found across the Coal Loader site. Visitors of all ages are welcome to participate, exploring the beauty of the historic site through hands-on art.

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker welcomed the return of the Coal Loader Artisans Market, highlighting its role in supporting local makers and community creativity:

"The Coal Loader Artisans Market is a wonderful opportunity to support local makers and enjoy a day of creativity with family and friends.

"We hope the Autumn edition inspires visitors to discover unique handmade products, take part in activities like The Big Whale Build, and explore the creative and sustainable environment of the Coal Loader."

The market is single-use plastic free and encourages visitors to walk, cycle or use public transport, with Waverton Station just a ten-minute walk away.

Held rain or shine, the Autumn edition of the Coal Loader Artisans Market is open to all ages and promises a day of creativity, discovery and community connection.
