Common car seat mistakes identified

If you think you don't need your child car seat professionally fitted, it may be time to think again.

Latest figures from Kidsafe Queensland show that 80% of car seats checked in the past year were incorrectly installed. A properly fitted car seat can be lifesaving, which is why we have partnered with Kidsafe to provide free professional car seat fittings in Brisbane and Logan.

Kidsafe Queensland CEO Susan Teerds said the most common mistake people make is not using the tether strap correctly.

"It is crucial that the tether strap is not too loose, or too tight, and attached to the correct anchor point... Otherwise the restraint will not adequately protect the child in the event of a crash."

Other common mistakes, include Isofix connectors detached, capsules incorrectly reclined , or twisted straps.

General Manager Assets Queensland, Angelo Lambrinos, said the partnership has delivered peace of mind for more than 3000 parents and care givers.

"We know that Kidsafe Queensland are the experts in child safety and we hope that by saving families the $45 for each car seat fitted, we're removing one barrier to helping keep Queensland kids safe on our roads.
