A community celebration will be held on Sunday 26 February to officially open the Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park – located at the Adventure Playground, Lake Road.

The official opening, to be officiated by Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella, with special guest Member for Ripon Martha Haylett MP, will commence at 11am with activities to be held between 10am and 4pm.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend with Skate Clinics, Competitions, Demonstrations, Pop-Ups and a BBQ planned for the day.

Hosted by YMCA and funded through the Victorian Government's Freeza program, All Aboard will host three skateboarding sessions - 10am to 11am, 11.30am to 12.30pm and 1 to 3pm – the sessions are free with equipment provided. To register visit www.skatepark.ymca.org.au/all-aboard

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said Council is encouraging the community come along and celebrate the official opening of the Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park on Sunday 26 February.

"Since the soft opening in December, it's been wonderful to see so many people use the new facility – no matter what time of day I drive or ride past - there is always someone either skating, scooting or roller skating.

"If you haven't used it yet we encourage you to come along and have a try at one of the skate clinics on offer – if you don't have any gear that's ok too as equipment will be provided on the day.

"The official opening is an important occasion for us to be able to publicly thank our funding partners - the Victorian Government and Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud, as well as Grind Projects who delivered the project in extraordinary weather conditions.

"It's also an opportunity to thank the 1,000 young people who instigated the project by signing a petition back in 2018 and presenting it to Council.

"This competition standard facility will not only have a broad range of health and wellbeing outcomes for our local community, but it will also be utilised by residents of all ages and abilities in our neighbouring townships."

The project is jointly funded by the Victorian Government through the Sports Recreation Victoria – Local Sports Infrastructure Fund - $250,000, Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud (in partnership with the Maryborough Lions Club) - $40,000 and Council - $395,000.

Signage and some minor landscaping work is still to be carried out on site.
