The new-look Dicky Beach Skate Park is a step closer to construction after the community voted for their favourite design.
Three design options, developed following extensive consultation earlier this year, were put to the community for consideration in an online survey which closed in June.
Option one was the overwhelming favourite, winning more than 60 per cent of votes.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer thanked those who provided feedback on the three designs.
"We have had a huge response to this consultation and I applaud the Dicky Beach skate community for their enthusiasm and support of this project, which is scheduled to start in 2021," Cr Dwyer said.
"Option one was clearly the popular choice and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to make their voice heard.
"As a result of comments received during consultation and based on input from local expert users, further design development was undertaken. The final outcome is a design that is optimised for all user skill levels and once constructed, I am confident it will enhance the experience of all users."
The Dicky Beach Skate Park redevelopment is part of council's Dicky Beach Precinct Plan, which was developed in response to the partial removal of the SS Dicky shipwreck in 2015.
The plan references the wreck's heritage values and significance as a local landmark, and includes a range of new and improved community facilities.
The plan also seeks to improve connectivity between the Dicky Beach Skate Park and the adjacent commercial area, holiday park, beach and surf lifesaving clubhouse.
Along with new viewing areas, public amenities, picnic and barbecue shelters, an upgraded playground and other landscape elements, a new skate park will be built to replace the old one.
Construction for the Dicky Beach Precinct Plan is expected to start in 2020 and will be completed in stages, subject to budget.
The following draft construction schedule has been developed, subject to annual funding confirmation:
2020: New public amenities building constructed.
2021: Skate park reconfigured and upgraded.
2022: Main SS Dicky interpretive area constructed and new Coastal Pathway alignment to be constructed.
2023: Car park reconfigured. New caravan park fence (east) with interpretive components constructed.
