Congratulations Richie Porte

Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Recreation

Tasmanian cyclist Richie Porte retires from the sport of cycling as one of the most talented, determined, and humble athletes our State has ever produced.

Among his long list of achievements over a stellar 13 year career, Porte claimed a podium finish at the Tour de France, won the Paris-Nice race twice, the Tour De Romandie, the Tour de Suisse and the Criterium du Dauphine. He was also a two-time Tour Down Under winner.

Porte always found time in his busy international racing schedule to fit in visits to his home State to promote cycling and inspire the next generation of Tasmanian athletes.

He will be sorely missed in the sport, and I wish him all the best in retirement.
