Construction Starts On Landmark Byford Health Hub

  • Construction underway on $42.2 million Byford Health Hub
  • PS Structures Pty Ltd awarded the construction tender
  • Two-storey hub will provide health and social care to residents in Serpentine-Jarrahdale
  • Byford Health Hub part of the Cook Government's record $4.9 billion health infrastructure program

Construction has started on the new Byford Health Hub, in a major step forward for the delivery of a progressive, integrated service for residents in the rapidly growing region.

The tender has been awarded to PS Structures Pty Ltd, who have a record of delivering highquality projects.

In a first for Western Australia, the Byford Health Hub will provide a single-entry point for residents to access a range of primary care, community, social, and specialist health services in one convenient location, close to where they live.

The ground floor will feature a specialised area for primary care, space for pathology collection by PathWest, treatment bays for a mobile X-ray, and a plaster/consult room.

It will also house a mental health service with a reception and waiting area, four consultation rooms, and a therapy room for group or family sessions.

A new community care navigator service to help co-ordinate and educate people with complex needs will also be located on the ground floor, along with meeting rooms for group therapy and education sessions, which can also be booked by local community and social groups.

The first floor will house 28 consultation and therapy rooms for WA Health outpatient and non-WA Health providers for in-person and telehealth appointments.

It will also contain a well-equipped gym to provide community-based rehabilitation to ensure people can stay active and avoid the escalation for more medical care, with a focus on older adults who frequently attend hospital.

Three child health nursing clinic rooms with a welcoming waiting area for parents, children, and other hub consumers will also be included.

The hub has been designed through extensive community and clinician consultation, including from Gnaala Karla Booja, representing Traditional Owners.

The facility is located on Bushman Glade, Byford, just south of the new METRONET station and north of the shopping centre.

One of the hub's benefits will be reducing pressure on the emergency department at Armadale Hospital, which deals with more than 70,000 presentations each year.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"The start of construction on the Byford Health Hub is a major step forward for the delivery of a range of integrated health services for the Byford community.

"The hub will allow them to access these services in one convenient location, close to where they live, as well as help to reduce pressure on Armadale Hospital's emergency department.

"This exciting project is part of my government's record $4.9 billion health infrastructure investment and our commitment to ensuring all Western Australians can access the healthcare they need, when they need it."

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

"This project is an important part of our $4.9 billion health infrastructure program and will allow people in the region to access specialist health and community-based care closer to home.

"The hub will provide families and individuals with greater access to a range of local services that comprehensively support health and social needs and prevent the need to attend hospital.

"This new health hub is just one of the ways the government is investing in community health care and delivering quality infrastructure and services across our State."

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"Not only will this facility support better health outcomes for the wider Byford community, it's also one of the many initiatives our government is progressing to alleviate pressure on our hospitals and emergency departments.

"It means people with non-urgent conditions can access care in a convenient location in their own community.

"The hub project is leading the way and showing how WA can deliver care in the future through a community-based model to benefit both patients and the health system."

As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:

"It's exciting to see construction now underway on this much-needed piece of health infrastructure.

"Byford is at the centre of one of the fastest-growing areas in Australia, and it's great to see the State Government continuing to support its growth with important projects like the Byford Health Hub.

"Construction of the Byford Health Hub adds to the growing list of major projects delivering better services and connections for the community."
