- Cook Government supporting the activation of Albany's Waterfront precinct with $409,500 through the Regional Development Leverage Fund
- Albany Waterfront Development Master Plan Stage 2 to commence
- Master Plan set to unlock economic, social and cultural potential of precinct
The Cook Government has supported plans to activate the culturally and economically significant waterfront precinct in Albany, as Stage 2 of the Albany Waterfront Master Plan commences.
Following the completion of Stage 1 of the plan managed by the Great Southern Development Commission, an application was made to the State Government's Regional Development Leverage Fund, facilitated by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
The successful application resulted in $409,500 being allocated to deliver Stage 2 of the Master Plan, with Southern Ports providing a further $20,000 to support delivery of the roject.
Stage 2 of the plan will develop a roadmap for future development of the iconic Albany Waterfront, including unlocking the potential of State-owned assets such as Southern Ports' Port of Albany and the Albany Entertainment Centre.
The planning process will focus on maximising the potential of the significant community, economic, environmental and cultural value of the area, while identifying and supporting stakeholder aspirations and concerns.
Consultation with key State Government agencies, the City of Albany, Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation and other stakeholders will guide the long-term vision for the high potential parcel of land.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

"We are proud to be supporting this collaborative and conscious planning process, and eventual beneficial developments that will result."
