Cook Govt. Announces Major Willetton School Upgrade

  • New three-storey classroom block officially opened at Willetton Senior High School
  • State-of-the-art Mathematics, English, Health, and Physical Education facilities for more than 500 students, and school staff
  • Accessible building design to meet the needs of staff and students with disabilities

A $15.6 million state-of-the-art classroom block delivered by the Cook Government has been officially opened at Willetton Senior High School.

The new three-storey classroom block includes 22 general classrooms, an inclusive education classroom, changerooms, and amenities to accommodate more than 500 students for Mathematics, English, Health, and Physical Education.

Its floor plan will enable a collaborative atmosphere, with informal learning spaces adjacent to classrooms and social spaces for students to enjoy. The accessible building design also ensures that the educational needs of both staff and students with disabilities will be met.

Delivery of this major school upgrade continues the Cook Labor Government's commitment to education in the local area, with a major $43.45 million upgrade of Rossmoyne Senior High School also underway and scheduled for completion late next year.

The projects are part of the State Government's $1.5 billion school infrastructure program to deliver new and modern public schools across Western Australia.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"My Government is committed to providing quality infrastructure and learning environments for school communities and staff, and this state-of-the-art upgrade is a great example of this.

"Willetton Senior High School is one of the largest secondary schools in WA, and this impressive new building will help cater for its future growth.

"Importantly, this building has been designed to be accessible to everyone, ensuring all local students have access to its wonderful facilities to support their education."

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

"This impressive facility provides a modern, accessible learning environment for both students and staff, to help further enhance the outstanding results of Willetton Senior High School.

"The building is an exciting addition for the students and staff, who can look forward to learning and teaching in new state-of-the-art facilities for many years to come."

As stated by Riverton MLA Dr Jags Krishnan:

"I am so pleased to see this project - a core commitment of mine - delivered for the Willetton Senior High School community.

"We are very proud of our track record of academic success in Riverton. With this project, and the major upgrade at Rossmoyne Senior High School, our Government is delivering on its firm commitment to equip schools in Riverton with the state-of-the-art facilities needed to ensure that our students continue to excel."
