CFA volunteers and community members marked the 30th anniversary of the Corio brigade last weekend.

Over 50 people attended the event at the Shell Club in Corio, including board member Beth Davidson OAM and inaugural member Steve Waugh.

Corio Captain Benjamin Lane has been with the brigade for 20 years, starting with the juniors when he was aged 11.

"I liked fire trucks, and they had a junior program and I joined that. From there I obviously progressed through the ranks," he said.

Benjamin has been Captain since 2023 and attributes the longevity of the brigade to its members.

"It goes back to the members and what they do to support the community," he said.

Inaugural member Steve Waugh joined the Norlane CFA at age 17 in 1984 before it became the Corio brigade.

With almost 40 years of service with the CFA, Steve, now 56, said the biggest changes today were the skills members had to learn.

"I still enjoy it and enjoy the people. You make friends all over the place," he said.

The brigade started in 1993 when North Geelong and Norlane amalgamated and became Corio Fire Brigade.

The brigade has 31 members
