Council Approves Sale Of Land At Former Saleyards Site

Council has approved the sale of part of the land at 125–135 Weddell Road, North Geelong, marking a major milestone in the transformation of the former Geelong Saleyards site.

The decision follows a period of community engagement, during which 24 submissions were received. Feedback was considered before Council resolved to proceed with the sale of approximately 2.5 to 2.8 hectares of the 4.3-hectare site.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM:

This is a key step in unlocking the site's potential and delivering a vibrant, liveable precinct that meets the needs of our growing community," Mayor Kontelj said.

"We're grateful to everyone who took the time to provide feedback and help shape the future of this important site.

The land is earmarked for higher-density housing, quality public spaces, community facilities, and limited commercial uses, in line with the Geelong Saleyards Precinct Plan, adopted by Council in 2021.

Councillor Anthony Aitken, Corio Ward:

This site presents a unique and very rare opportunity to revitalise former industrial land into a residential oasis so close to the CBD of Geelong and North Geelong Railway Station.

We're excited about what this could mean for North Geelong – more homes, better public spaces, and a design that reflects what the community wants.
