Rockhampton Regional Council called for tenders last week to demolish a number of structures in the Region that are considered unsafe to the general public.
General Manager Community Services Alicia Cutler said the sites have been identified following a review of buildings across the region.
"There are eight properties in our region that have been vacant for some time and have deteriorated to the point that they are now deemed unsafe and present a real risk," Ms Cutler said.
"Some of them are riddled with toxic black mould, asbestos or even have holes into old septic tanks. Others will requires works such as removing garden sheds, fencing and other structures.
"Given the safety issues and our responsibility to the community, it's essential we restore the sites to a safe state to allow for future use or works."
Residents in close proximity to the flagged sites have been contacted by Council directly and will be kept informed as the program proceeds.
Council also acknowledges there are stakeholder groups within the community who have an interest in some of these sites. There are provisions which will allow those stakeholders to engage with Council around the requirements for these sites and their ability to complete the necessary repairs required for leasing.
