Council Pledges Solidarity With Those Impacted By War

Mayor, Clr Brown

City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown has expressed Council's care and solidarity with members of the community who may have been affected by recent events in the Middle East.

In a Mayoral Minute carried at the 24 June 2025 Ordinary Meeting, Mayor Brown recognised that international events, particularly those involving conflict or humanitarian crises, can have a deep emotional impact on residents, especially those with cultural, family or personal ties to affected regions.

"While foreign affairs remain the sole responsibility of the federal government, both federal and state representatives play an important role in supporting the wellbeing of constituents affected by global events, particularly through community services, advocacy and coordination with support agencies," Mayor Brown said.

"It is appropriate and important for the City of Ryde to express care and solidarity with all members of our community who may be distressed at this time.

"Many residents of the City of Ryde have connections to regions experiencing conflict, including Iranian, Israeli, Palestinian and broader international communities. We also acknowledge the concern felt by those with loved ones deployed overseas in support or humanitarian roles.

"The City of Ryde has long been a place of inclusion, harmony and shared values. In that spirit, we extend our support to all residents affected by these events and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that everyone in our community feels safe, respected and supported."

Council will continue to promote access to wellbeing services, multicultural support and community networks to assist any resident impacted by current global circumstances.
