Council statement on Parkdale Secondary College program

Statement from Kingston Council CEO Tim Tamlin:

Council is deeply sorry that this session has caused hurt and anguish to students and parents.

The session was intended to raise awareness about different perspectives and experiences in our community by discussing issues including disability, LGBTQI+, culture and race.

We are focused on bringing people together so everyone is included, heard and understood. It is very upsetting to hear that the program has had the opposite impact to what was intended and I apologise that hurt was caused.

We have suspended the Diversity and Inclusion Program and will conduct a thorough review to ensure this can never happen again.

The review will include an assessment of the course content and training provided to staff delivering the program.

Council has written to all students an parents involved to apologise directly. Read Council's letter to Parkdale Secondary College students and parents.
