This year, Melbourne's South East has received higher than normal levels of rainfall throughout winter and spring, which has resulted in rapid and extensive grass growth that is above average.
The level of rainfall has affected our Routine Open Space maintenance schedule across the community, in some cases restricting the ability of our contractors' mowing machinery to access the reserves and parks.
The City of Casey maintains more than 2,500 parks, reserves and roadsides across Casey.
Our contractors also experienced delays in receiving new mowing equipment due to COVID associated equipment supply issues, as well as some issues with labour supply.
We are working with our contractors to ensure that the mowing programs return to schedule as quickly as possible. Given the scale of parks, reserves and roadsides across Casey, this is likely to take some weeks yet and is dependent on the amount of further rainfall we receive amongst other issues. However, we anticipate, that by mid-December all parks will have been cut with a return to the normal maintenance schedule in early January 2022.
