Council Unveils Plan for Resilient Hawkesbury

An image of a hand holding the Resilience StrategyHawkesbury City Council has officially adopted the Thriving Hawkesbury: Beyond Resilience Strategy, marking a major milestone in the region's journey toward a stronger, more connected and sustainable future.

The Strategy sets out a clear, community driven vision to not only withstand future shocks like bushfires, floods and droughts, but to thrive in the face of everyday challenges such as ageing infrastructure, limited public transport and housing affordability.

Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather said the Strategy reflects the Hawkesbury community's enduring spirit and commitment to working together.

"Our community has shown time and again how resilient we are, but this strategy is about going further," Mayor Sheather said. "It's about building a Hawkesbury where everyone can thrive, not just survive. We're proud to have worked closely with our community to shape this vision. "

The Strategy is built around five key directions:

  • Great Place to Live - The Hawkesbury should have the social assets it needs to thrive. The community should be able to live, work and play comfortably and have equitable access to social assets.
  • Caring for Country - Caring for nature and living sustainably. Understanding that we are all a part of an ecosystem and must behave accordingly. Take care of Country and Country will take care of you.
  • Connected for Strength - Our communities are connected. Hawkesbury residents from all walks of life are empowered to work together to prepare for, adapt to and recover from times of crisis.
  • Prepared and Informed - Every member of our community understands the risks they face and is empowered to work with each other to prepare for and recover from shocks events.
  • Our Hawkesbury - Strong partnerships between governments, service providers, community organisations, local businesses and residents form the foundation for capacity building, knowledge sharing and cooperation.

The Strategy was developed through extensive community consultation and collaboration with local stakeholders and will guide Council's work in building a more inclusive, prepared and prosperous Hawkesbury.
