Federation Council is proud to announce the formal adoption of its Federation Ageing Well Strategy 2026-2030.

The strategy, which underwent a 28-day public exhibition period ending in April 2026, received strong community backing with zero formal objections, signalling a unified vision for the region's future.

While the public exhibition period saw no new formal submissions, Council officials noted that this was a testament to the extensive "pre-exhibition" engagement phase.

That process successfully captured the voices of over 450 survey participants and attendees across six dedicated workshops, ensuring the strategy was built on a foundation of direct community feedback.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook said, our seniors are the backbone of the Federation Region and this strategy is our commitment to ensuring they don't just age here, but thrive here.

"By adopting this strategy, we are taking a whole-of-life approach to ageing - focusing on everything from physical accessibility in our streets to digital literacy and social connection," she said.

"I am particularly pleased that our initial consultations were so thorough that the community felt their needs were fully met in the draft. This Strategy now puts us in a much stronger position for state and federal "Active Ageing" grants, allowing us to bring even more resources into our towns."

The adoption of the strategy marks the immediate commencement of the Year 1 Action Plan. Key actions will be integrated into the upcoming 2026/27 operational Plan and Budget, ensuring that the strategy's goals are backed by clear deliverables.

Council has identified that failing to plan for an ageing demographic poses risks, such as social isolation and infrastructure barriers. The 2026-2030 strategy mitigates these risks by prioritising accessible community infrastructure and supportive social planning.

The implementation will be managed within existing Community Services budgets, ensuring a fiscally neutral impact on the Council's long term financial plan while delivering maximum social value.
