Nillumbik's VCE Arts, Studio Arts, and Design students of 2021 are currently showcasing their works in the annual Creative Minds exhibition, which was officially opened by Mayor Councillor Frances Eyre on Friday 5 August at the Eltham Library Community Gallery.

Exhibits include works by students from Catholic Ladies College, Eltham College, Eltham High School and Plenty Valley Christian College.

There are some serious and important themes explored in the works exhibited this year including the environment and the climate crisis, young people's experience of the pandemic, acknowledging the traditional owners of the land, sustainability, waste and our mental health.

Nillumbik Mayor Cr Frances Eyre, said that the exhibition highlights the real demands young people are currently facing.

"Young people have been hit particularly hard by the pandemic and the issues surrounding that," Cr Eyre said.

"Artists are often at the forefront, putting into perspective contemporary issues happening in our society and this exhibition is no exception."

"Council is proud to be an ongoing supporter of this exhibition that celebrates the exceptional creative talent within our local high schools."

"I encourage all Nillumbik residents to head to the gallery to check out the creations of the talented young people in your neighbourhood." Cr Eyre said.

For the past 14 years the Creative Minds exhibition has showcased some of the top VCE artwork produced at our local schools. It is an important exhibition that gives our younger artists a platform for their art to be experienced by the wider community.

The free exhibition runs until Sunday 11 September 2022.

Visit the Eltham library website for opening hours.
